I'm not a giant Tori Spelling fan, but I don't dislike her either and a friend recommended her books as perfect, light material for me to read while recuperating from surgery and this book totally delivers. Tori just seems very genuine and admits a lot about her foibles and upscale preferences, but you forgive her because she's not the average 'girl next door'; she grew up privileged and famous and so it's okay that she needs an expensive penthouse for her first apartment after leaving the family home. There are several great stories in here about her interactions (and disappointments) with other celebrities so if you're looking for that type of dish, you will happily find it here. She also talks at length about her 90210 days and her involvement in the production of the show (even if some of it is frankly unbelievable) so 90210 fans will find some fun stuff here as well.Tags : Stori Telling [Tori Spelling] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Tori absolutely out did herself in this book....I loved the book. What a great story and she was so open and honest.....I always liked Tori Spelling and enjoyed any show she was in but now I can honestly say I am a fan! I sure hope Oxygen has another season of her and Dean...now that I have read the book I will know more about some of the people in her life...friends etc.
If you grew up on 90210 (the original) like I did, then you will really enjoy this book. Tori Spelling has been a controversial name for a long time. People have strong opinions about her, and most of them are anything but good.
In Tori Spellings first memoir, she holds nothing back. From juicy details about set hookups to setting the record straight about Shannen Dohrety's notorious nasty attitude, she lets us all the way behind the scenes of 90210. Beyond her decade shooting the show, she talks about her time growing up as a Spelling. While you might think that a name like Spelling could open a lot of doors, in fact it closes just as many as it opens. Tori talks about how she has always had to work h
arder because of her name.
Its no secret that Tori and her mother Candy have a strainedrelationship. They spend more time not talking to each other than they do being cordial. Tori lays it all out on the table, the good, the bad, and the truly unfortunate. She doesn't vilify her mother, but she doesn't exactly paint her in the best light. At the same time she tells stories that are really charming about her mother, things that she did to make Tori's childhood memorable and that Tori cherishes. Tori also sheds light on why she believes her mother treats her the way she does.
It was really interesting to read about her relationship with her father, Aaron Spelling. She was his little girl, a little producer helping him make casting decisions and telling him what works and doesn't work in a script. They enjoyed picking up dog poop in the back yard, and gardening in free time together. At the same time though, he never taught her anything about how to manage money. When he leaves her with barely anything, and no skills to manage what little
she has, she wonders why things couldn't have been different.
The most scandalous section covers her marriage to Charlie, and man that she loved, but wasn't in-love with. Tori moves to Ottawa to shoot Mind Over Murder, another bread and butter T.V. movie. She meets Dean McDermott and falls instantly in love with him. They actually sleep together the night they meet, despite the fact that they are both married and Dean has a child. Tori sheds light on the entire situation and their reasoning behind the choices they made. She also covers the fall out when the arrive home to break the news to their partners, and the photos of their trysts being leaked to the press. Beyond the rocky start, she talks about how happy they were together, and talks about their fairy tale engagement and then the wedding.
Near the end of the book she talks about her new family with husband Dean McDermott, and how she is happier than she ever thought she could be. Currently they have two children, Liam and Stella. Tori is still estranged from her mother, and he mother has yet to meet little Stella. You can watch their lives on the Oxygen network. Tori and Dean- Home Sweet Hollywood is their second reality show. I watched all the episodes and really enjoyed watching them. They have a great spirit and seem sublimely happy together. From a rocky start to a smooth finish, Tori has been through it all and has come out on the other side with an idyllic life.
An excellent celebrity memoir that I enjoyed every moment of. If you like this, Tori has another book out now called Mommywood, its about being a Hollywood mom, and is also a New York Times Bestseller. Her mother also has a book out telling her side of the story Stories from Candyland. Also, Dean McDermotts former wife has a tell all book out, Divorce Sucks What to do when irreconcilable differences, lawyer fees, and your ex's Hollywood wife make you miserable
In this candid biography, Tori Spelling recounts her most noTORIous experiences including her battle against claims of nepotism throughout her acting career, conflicts with her parents, emotionally abusive relationships, her failures in love...as well as her triumphs, and her struggles with defining herself according to her own terms. Though Tori admits her life was anything but "normal"- fake snow in LA for Christmas- she does relate to the reader on several different levels, allowing us to see that while she may have come from privilege, money does not always buy happiness.
sTORI Telling has a very breezy, carefree narrative and it is as if Tori is merely sitting down with you, divulging some of her most guarded secrets and funniest escapades- including a hilarious episode with a clairvoyant. The book will have you both laughing and crying by the end. In a sense, the reader can see how this work was cathartic for Spelling, especially in her most revealing chapters regarding her infidelity and subsequent divorce to her first husband.
Readers looking for particularly juicy gossip or sordid tales of Tori and her 90210 co-stars will probably not find much amusement with this book. Like any biography, sTORI Telling seldom portrays Spelling in a negative light and she rarely divulges damaging details about her co-stars, friends, and family members. If you are a fan or viewer of her Oxygen show or just love good 'ole Donna Martin, this makes a wonderful "rainy" day, beach, airplane, or vacation book!
I wouldn't call myself a "fan" of Tori Spelling and I don't read tabloids, so I went into this book a little blind. I was in a phase of needing to read autobiographies and this one caught my attention.
Boy, was I surprised. Tori Spelling really dives deep when she goes into the disagreements she had with her mother over the years, but she didn't berate her like you'd imagine(luckily, she didn't defend her either). I also would normally NEVER agree with cheating, and, in fact, I still believe her cheating on her husband was completely wrong and she should have left him first.
HOWEVER, she did tell him immediately and it's obvious from the last half of the book how much she loves Dean. I even watched a clip of their show Tori & Dean Inn Love after finishing the novel and could see it in the show. It was a very personal and exclusive look into the life of one rich & famous person and it made me respect her more than you'd imagine. She may have grown up with money but she didn't use it the way I think some do, and the way some people believe she does.
From what I can tell, Tori Spelling has done her best, tried her hardest, and she now has a beautiful family and a loving husband to show for it. I like her.
